It has been a great year for Interstate 73 and 74. In February, the South Carolina Department of Transportation announced the approval of the Record of Decision, and the request for public-private partnership proposals for the I-73 Southern Project. In addition, a consulting firm in Virginia produced a study that showed Interstate 73’s economic impact in Franklin, Henry, and Roanoke counties would be over $8.1 billion in its first 10 years.
West Virginia is also moving forward at full speed, the Mercer bridge is ahead of schedule and an additional 29 miles are under construction on the King Coal Highway. In North Carolina, transportation officials are currently working on plans to connect North Carolina Highway 68 and U.S. Highway 220 with Interstate 73. These are only a few examples of the progress being made along the six-state corridor of Interstate 73/74.
The National I-73/74 Corridor Association is proud to be a part of a project that is moving forward so diligently and is happy to host the 2008 Spring Road Rally in Greensboro, North Carolina. This rally will serve as an opportunity to learn more about the progress of Interstate 73/74, and discuss the challenges facing Interstate 73/74 in the years ahead.
